Couldn't take any pictures yet... running all day long with documents, articles/books to read, lectures to watch, topics to discuss, baby anteaters to take care of!! Learn, learn, learn!! So far this experience is just confirming what I've always known... this is what I want for life... still have a long way to go, so no preciptations here....

Arrival in Manaus

Ok, so I arrived at 00:45am today here in Manaus and went to a hostel spend the rest of my night/morning whatever.... IT IS FREAKING HOT AND HUMID HERE!!!! and this is not the rainy season... fun times, fun times....I think I slept a total of 3 hours tonight... ppl coming in and out of the room, no air conditioner on this room just a fan that I don't know if it was helping or making it worse.. but it's not as bad as described.. lol it's all good....

Now I'm at INPA filling out forms and getting to know the new ppl around here and I'll probably go to Tefé on Wednesday morning, and then the fun starts... as far as I know we're capturing around 70 animals (river dolphins) in November for samples, identification and everything else...sooo it's gonna be fun!

Gotta go now...

Ok.. so Pat gave me this idea and I think it will be easier to keep everyone'- who's interested - updated on how I'm handling the Amazon, or the other way around, lol......and I guess it's the easiest way to post pictures so everyone can see....

As everybody knows it won't have news every day or even every week but I'll do my best...

So for starter I'm putting the google maps link here to show that I wasn't kidding when I said I would be in the middle of the Amazon... aaannnddd actually I told everybody that it would be a 4 hours flight and 4h boat ride to the place I'm going.. but it's actually a 4 DAY boat ride to Mamirauá, the name of the reserve that I'm staying.. so yup! It seems further from home than Edmonton... lol...
This pic is from my first amazonic adventure in 2007, when I interned at the army zoo. That's not where I stayed atime, but if you look at the pic you'll see lots of trees and a small floating house on the bottom of the picture... it's going to be a little bit like that this time. :)
